Diva Discussion Thread (NO spoilers)
#1
i've finished watching Diva and it is easily Joey's best movie, as expected. yes, partly because her previous movies weren't so great but this one is not bad. some parts were cut out though, like the interview we saw in one of the trailers and also this scene here:

the interview that was cut:

for those who have watched Diva already, the spoiler tags don't work anymore so DO NOT REVEAL ANYTHING ABOUT THE MOVIE YET.

my biggest criticism is that the movie is too short, so many things happened too quickly. there are too many mag and carlos scenes and not enough Joey and Hu Ge. it doesn't feel like much has happened and i'll even say that it's a bit on the boring side. i wish more "dark secrets" about the music industry were exposed. that said, i do believe Diva is worth a watch. Joey's acting has improved and i like that the real N6 clips were included. u also get to see Joey's back Big Grin :naughty:

Joey went to several theaters to promote Diva, here's one short clip:

^they should've kept that interview! It would've been pretty bold/interesting considering the rumours Joey had earlier in her career (which i still feel is one of the biggest barriers stopping Joey from becoming even more popular), and i'm pretty sure Heiward was thinking the same thing too when writing the script

i thought that they should've kept the interview too, until i saw the full interview (posted above) with the part about rape. what J said there promotes the idea that the girl was wrong for bringing alcohol. i know that in the movie, it is J who says it, and not Joey, but the real Joey did say that about the actual girl who was raped.

i kind of think the movie was just right but in my opinion the ending couldve been better Big Grin on a side note, can anyone link me to the songs that was used in the movie?

Ughhh Hu Ge does not look good in those gifs.

So have you guys seen it?

I'm reading some reviews online and it seems like it was a flop.

SB, I swear Joey needs to either rethink of statements or comment less on certain issues. The comment about rape/alcohol is cringe-worthy (unless someone can tell me it was translated out of context). Can you imagine if her younger fans hear that and think "ohh X was sexually assaulted, must have been her fault with the alcohol".

^ .....yeah... joey probably hasn't been educated about this and/or perhaps it is common for HKers to hold this view (not that it's an excuse). i'll admit that if i wasn't educated about it i would probably think the same thing.

box office sales have exceeded $400 mil.

$400mil HKD? inclusive of China? Sounds very very inflated. Given that we can ignore the HK box office (4million hkd a week ago?) ..that's about $40m USD for china? Wow. Impressive (if it's true). I sort of meant flop in the critical sense. Apparently only chapman was memorable.

^actually I think she meant $4 mil LOL (i don't think any non-HK numbers have been released yet?)....which is actually not THATTT bad for a local HK movie in HK alone, definitely not as bad as the media is making it seem. I haven't read very many reviews, though it seems like the critical reception to the movie has been decent (but not amazing)? Considering the quality of Joey's previous movies most ppl seem decently surprised that the movie was okay and that Joey's acting has improved.

Here's a good radio review for those that can't really read Chinese but can understand (sorry van haha):

(Minor spoilers but you can just skip it)
