Ok, we've loaded up the chatbox too many times and I think its good to start a new thread. I wont load up a poll cause we might change opinions alot, and like the dark thread thing, even in the end I'm not sure what I should vote for.

Anyway, leaving the dark side aside, personally I totally agree with Wong Jing (If you remember the article about him vs Mani a few weeks ago) in saying that EEG's contracts are WAY WAY WAY WAY too long. If pplz doesn't know whats happening here's a little background story (clear me up if im wrong).

Isabella was 12 when she caught alberts eye. He signed a contract with her to train her and etc etc to prepare her in becoming an artist. Contrast to the belief of many, that contract IS NO LONGER VALID. Cause she signed another one when she was 18 so Albert can avoid any legal liabilities (underage contract signing). Anywayz, that contract was 15 years. 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18+15=33

You lock yourself in at 18 to be stuck with the same company till you're 33?! WDF?!

Whats even worse, after a few instances of unpopularity, EEG decided to freeze her. But her mum went back to beg albert and he said he'll unfreeze isabella if she signed another contract extending her previous one by another 5 years. THATS TWENTY YEARS!!!! She'll nearly be 40 by the time she can walk off the entertainment stage. So definately no marriage no kids etc etc........until 40. Which by then I doubt you're gonna have kids.

So in short, I hope Isabella wins out, get a large cashout and screw Albert over =)
I've studied a bit about contact law. Hong Kong is a common law system, so it should be similar in Canada.

Contracts before you become an adult are interesting, assuming that contract under 18 is over, it's not an issue.

I have no idea what the current contract consists of, but I'm pretty damn sure you can't force someone to be not allowed to marry, or not have kids. If there are such clauses, they are illegal and the clauses or perhaps the entire contract can be void.

You also can't force people to sign a contract, if there was pressure exerted, and it can be proved, then Isabella could be free from the breach. Also if there was unequal bargaining power, which is probably the case with EEG, then it can also be argued in court.

However this is interesting, and I'd like to see how this would end up. These days, you don't really seem to see justice in Hong Kong.
The reason why EEG decided to freeze her, according to Mani, was because she didn't turn up to an event she was supposed. They thought that giving her a bit of time to think over what she wants to do with her career would be effective. But look what happened, that stupid idiot has eloped with some rich biatch now ...
As much as I dislike Albert Yeung, I don't want Isabella to "win". If she signed the contract in the first place, then that's it, it was her choice. Just because her image is damaged and not popular in HK, doesn't mean she should just try to screw EEG up and try to escape from her job and company. Isabella is an idiot.
I think your background story is really biased lol there is nothing to support those facts either. Did you just pull them out of the magazine?! EEG doesn't just freeze anyone cause they aren't popular. And how sure are you that her mum went to "beg" Albert? And what for? Beg him to unfreeze Isabella? Wth. It just doesn't make sense that

I don't understand why EEG wants to sign Isabella for 20 years either (if that's true). But I still think Isabella is irresponsible to leave and let the others speak for her. She should act a little more professional. But I don't think she cares either cause she's got her "rich" bf now
20 years is a fact, and if you insist on all the evidence like the police then let it be, I shall base my point that 20 years is way way way way too long. Esp for an 18 year old.

Perhaps 20 years is too long, but if she signed it willingly and not under undue pressure, then she should live up to it. Legally speaking just because it sounds extreme, doesn't mean you don't have to do it.

How about a 13 year contract for Alexander Ovechkin, he's 22.

However the issue is, that most people don't regard EEG as an ethical company, in that sense I'd like to see them lose too. But the law should be objective, and hopefully the courts will handle it properly and fairly.
ehh, I don't like either side... I'm not so much into who wins and who doesn't.. rather the effects on EEG artists (particularly Joey Rolleyes)

jeng ga wing... he signed a lifelong contract to pay his manager 10% of whatever he made... but that was unreasonable cuz he had to pay him even though his agent didn't do anything for him forever
and thats why they're at court too =)
I don't like entertainment contracts, especially the EEG type where they exert so much control over the artist and their life. Is forcing someone into a fake public image so good an idea, look what happened to Gillian lol. These contracts seem to heavily weighed in favour of the entertainment company, if EEG want to kill your career they can (i.e. Grace Ip) but the artist seems powerless. How these companies can get away with it these days is strange.

Still if Isabella can break into Hollywood why should she care about EEG anymore, she'll likely make far more money doing bit parts in Hollywood films and TV than major roles in HK movies.
