Justin Lo, the winner of many male first year awards, has recently released his second album titled "No Protection." His first album had something like 5 plugs from it making him very talked about in the hk industry. Being one of a few to perform in the HK Coliseum this early on (well hes not exactly young, lol) in his career, is a foreshadow for any singer in a promising career in the industry. His trademark hat carrying the famous J conceals his hair from public and many rumors have said it is because of his baldness. He composes his own music and composed other peoples music before he began singing and has had success with that. His song, "Good Person", even won one of the top ten songs at the RTHK awards showing that he has golden song material.
This tread is talk about Justin Lo, whether you love or hate him or feel indifferent.
First my thoughts: Justin is good "composer", don't get me wrong, but he is just an average singer. In his first MV, you can see how hard he looked like had to sing to even sing a decent song. Maybe audiences were captivated by this seeing him very emotional and the whole package that comes with it, but that doesn't mean he should be popular because he looks like he tries hard emotionally to sing and produces ok works of music. His first album was pretty good when I first listened to it but when there were like 5 songs plugged from it and all of the songs, in my opinion, sounded like the same, I was really angry at how he even had most of them go to number one on various top 20 programs. In his second album, from a quick trial, I already noticed he has changed his style dramatically. He has barely anything that sounded close to his last album and I hear some tunes in some songs from very recent songs that had airplay. Yes, he couldn't stick with the same formula like he did in his first album, but this is the wrong direction to go. The next thing is about his baldness. I mean why hide yourself; you whould express yourself fully. Don't hold back because you are bald. Show and represent bald people and tell them that it's your music that is important. By having that very hat to cover it up, it shows his unbravery. And that's why, for now, I don't like him.
